In this qualitative study including 27 leaders from diverse US EDs reporting adverse SDOH screening, EDs reported heterogeneity in adverse SDOH screening and documentation practices, skepticism of utility of ED adverse SDOH screening and referral, and challenges regarding resources, staffing and time to screen and address adverse SDOH needs.These findings highlight the need for additional research on development and implementation of ED adverse SDOH screening programs, as well as funding provisions to support patient needs within regulatory mandates instituting adverse SDOH screening.
